IDEA Process
A structured approach to designing research that is credible, meaningful, and built to last
Successful research needs three things:
Data that is credible and valid
Insights that are genuinely compelling and useful
A plan to launch and amplify your findings
The IDEA process gets you there
Over the years, I’ve honed a process called the IDEA model to help clients like you publish credible, story-worthy research that makes your desired impact.
-
Every engagement begins with Impact, a short strategy phase that clarifies direction and aligns the team before survey questions are written.
This phase is typically completed within about a week and ensures the research is grounded in the right goals from the start:
What success looks like
How you want your audience to think differently after reading the research
What research already exists — and where there’s opportunity for a unique angle
How survey respondents will be secured
How the study fits within your broader marketing strategy
-
The goal of this step is to create a survey that is both valid and relevant.
The specific steps include:
Survey design
Programming and testing
Fielding and monitoring
Data cleaning and standardization
Data analysis and cross-tabulation
Extracting the insights that shape the story
-
We identify the findings that matter most and determine how the research will be presented and used.
This phase includes:
Clarifying the narrative arc
Deciding how the research will be accessed (gated or open)
Outlining the report structure
Preparing core assets to support launch
-
Strong research shouldn’t end at publication.
In this final phase, we prioritize the ways your findings can extend beyond the report. The goal is simple: ensure the work continues to deliver value.
Common ways to amplify your content include:
Webinars
Blog posts
Podcasts
Social media posts
